Teresa Teixeira Greene has been in her
current position [since the beginning of 2020]. This follows a Bachelor’s degree from William & Mary in History and an MA in History of Decorative Arts from the Smithsonian Institution and George Mason University. She has worked at Colonial Williamsburg in Textiles and Historic Interiors, James Madison’s Montpelier as Curator of Collections, and The Charleston Museum as Curator of Historical Textiles.
For Greene, working with textiles is a labor of love. She says “I’ve always loved history, and in undergrad, I ended up writing all my history papers about clothing, textiles, and other decorative arts. When I found out that was actually a thing you could study, I dove in headfirst.”
Right now her average day consists of processing a large gift in the morning and inventorying/evaluating the collection in the afternoon.
“The most unique aspect is probably uncovering the breadth of the collection. I recently found out that we have one object made by Grace Coolidge’s dad: the seat cover for their outhouse.” Greene says, “The hardest part is not getting too excited about whatever I’m looking at and doing a deep dive researching it.”
In August 2020, Teresa was featured in a Dress & Drinks webinar that can be seen on our YouTube channel. You can check out all of our Curator Profiles by clicking here.
