Spring 2010 - President's Letter
Dear CSA Southwest Members,
It was good to see many of you in the Dallas/Fort Worth area last fall. The fall regional was much fun with visits to the Mary Kay museum, Main Street-Grapevine, the new Dallas Performing Arts Center, and a special tour of the Fashion on Main exhibit "Painting the Town". Several of us had a secret peek inside of "Caralee's Closet" along with dinner at her home. Much thanks to Caralee Smith and Myra Walker for helping to make the weekend successful.
A productive board meeting was held that weekend. We discussed reviewing and revising the regional by-laws, which have not been updated in years. We also discussed sponsoring a student for membership or attendance at a CSA event. We are please to announce that with the remaining money from the weekend a student membership was offered to a student at the University of North Texas. We hope to be able to sponsor more students. The board will also seek state representatives so that the region will have a point person to communicate and report on member activities and events in each state.
We are now in full swing of planning events for 2010. Jennifer Klos has an exciting weekend planned for us in Oklahoma City. The weekend will include talks and meetings with Hollywood costume designer Deborah Landis and textile conservator Cara Varnell along with visits to Jennifer's exhibit Sketch to Screen at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and a behind the scenes tour of the textile department at the National Cowboy Museum. We hope many of you will join us for this exciting weekend.
In Salt Lake City, Mary Farahnakian and Jaynanne Mead are already planning a fall event around the Salt Lake City and Provo areas. A date has not been set yet, but should be around late September, early October. It should be fun to venture to the Western side of our region.
We look forward to hearing about the exhibits and events at your organizations and in your areas. Please keep the information coming. Also think about hosting a regional meeting or just a small local gathering. Many of our events gain the interest of both members and non-members. Let's keep the networking lines open!
